We started in 1972 when Martin Tennent began making medical devices from his garage in Headingley, Leeds. Over fifty years later, we’re still a family business in our third generation, still manufacturing in West Yorkshire.
For most of that time we were called Yorkshire Care Equipment. As we grew to cover the whole UK and started sending products abroad every week, the name no longer fitted. Today we’re Vivid Care, and our equipment is on every continent (apart from perhaps Antarctica)!
Original founder Martin Tennent starts Headingley Scientific Services, making enuresis alarms from his garage and selling them to Hospital Trusts.
Martin opens a small mobility shop in Far Headingley, Leeds
John joins Martin Tennent, working on both the electronics and mobility side of the business.
Headingley Scientific Services is sold, to give greater focus to the mobility side of the business.
Move to new premises in Rawdon, Leeds
Martin Tennent retires, and the Hulbert family (Duncan and his two sons Gordon and John) buy the business
An additional showroom is opened in Starbeck, Harrogate
Harrogate showroom is extended
The Rawdon premises are extended to provide larger showrooms and offices.
Harrogate premises are relocated to Linkside, an ex-car showroom on Knaresborough Road, providing much-needed showroom, office and warehouse space.
The first YORtrain event for OTs is held at Wetherby Racecourse, which ran annually until 2017
The business incorporates as CoreCare Global Ltd trading as Yorkshire Care Equipment, with Gordon and John’s sons joining the board.
Yorkshire Care becomes the exclusive supplier of the Raizer lifting device for UK North. The Rawdon premises are sold.
Our first own-brand care chair is launched, the Lento, developed alongside healthcare professionals
The Little Lento chair is launched for children and smaller adults.
During the pandemic we started doing video assessments and supplied equipment to the Nightingale Hospitals.
Yorkshire Care Equipment rebrands to Vivid Care
The Harrogate showroom is closed and Vivid Care relocates to Rofta House in Rudgate, Wetherby, joining sister companies Innova Care Concepts and Aquadapt.
We win the UK distributorship for the Sertain chair, a lie-flat hospital chair made in Australia.
The HiBack chair is launched, a bedside chair for hospital wards designed in collaboration with the NHS.

Vivid Care sits within the privately owned CoreCare Group alongside Innova Care Concepts (healthcare facility design and fitout) and Aquadapt (accessible bathing and adaptations). That gives us financial stability, shared specialist resources, and deep logistics experience across the NHS, including supporting the Nightingale Hospitals and vaccine centres during COVID.
It also means we’re not going anywhere. Fifty-plus years and counting, and we plan to be here for the next fifty.
