Peter was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s in 2018 whilst living and working in Tunisia. His condition had progressed to include Posterior Cortical Atrophy, resulting in loss of eyesight, and had now advanced to the stage where he was immobile and could only communicate through facial expressions.
Being completely immobile and unable to walk or stand, Peter needed a care chair that would provide round-the-clock postural support and high levels of comfort and pressure relief.
Our Client’s Care Challenges
At 6’ 4”, Peter was a very tall gentleman and found that most wheelchairs and tilt-in-space chairs couldn’t fully accommodate his leg length, besides causing other postural problems with the positioning of torso and head supports.
Peter’s posture was becoming progressively worse, causing him to slump sideways in the chair and adopt very uncomfortable sitting postures, which was significantly impacting his quality of life and causing concern for family members.
How We Helped Overcome These Challenges
With a few simple height metrics we were able to supply the chair that Peter so desperately needed – the Lento Care Chair!
Able to accommodate anyone over 5’ 2” in height, this chair is unique in its level of adjustability and tailored postural support.
The beauty of the Lento Care Chair is that it can be resized without tools to suit the client, which we can do on delivery when setting up the chair.
When we received his height and leg measurements, we knew the Lento Care Chair could be resized to the right dimensions for Peter, with its adjustable seat height, width, depth, armrest height and footplate height. This saved the time and hassle of a seating assessment, speeding up the whole process.
We supplied the Lento Care Chair straight from stock, with a 2-point belt to help support and straighten his posture.
What Impressed The Client Most
Peter and his wife were “delighted” with the new chair, saying it was “the only one we have found that fits his needs”.
His wife observed the dramatic improvements in his posture within only a few days, saying “my husband is so much more comfortable in it, and his posture has become straighter and stronger.”
Overall Impact on The Client’s Quality of Life
The transformation in Peter’s levels of comfort and wellbeing was undeniable. Being more upright and supported in the chair not only vastly improved his posture, but also assisted with eating meals.
In addition to being much more comfortable, Peter could enjoy being in the chair for much of the day without having to be hoisted whenever he needed personal care or moving, due to the design and portability of the Lento, which was a huge relief for Peter and his care team.
