Our brand new adjustable, portable, and infection control friendly HiBack Bedside Chair is a game-changer for hospital patients and care-givers alike, delivering unmatched easy functionality, safety, and comfort in one revolutionary (and patented) design. It’s been in the development phase for over two years, with every small detail being carefully considered and crafted for perfection.
With no comparable product on the market, this chair sets a new standard for hospital and multi-user care settings. Welcome to the future of patient comfort and care efficiency!
Adjustability Options: Ensuring Comfort for Every Patient
All-in-One Height Adjustment, to Fit Every Patient Perfectly: A single, simple turn-handle action within the seat of the chair adjusts the seat height from 16–22 inches, with infinite variation in between. No more tipping over chairs to adjust each individual leg, no more back or repetitive strain injuries from doing so, and no more unhappy patients on chairs that can’t adjust at all!
Seat Adjustments: The seat width is adjustable from 16–20 inches, and the depth from 19–21 inches. Within the seat and back cushions, the lumbar firmness, and cushion position are all adjustable to meet the individual needs of every patient.
A Modular Design: There is a range of replaceable components on this bedside chair, which not only enables you to easily provide comfort for patients of different shapes and sizes, but it also ensures longevity and ease of maintenance or cleaning. Replaceable components include the arms, arm pads, cushion upholstery, and wheels. There are also a range of different cushion thicknesses, which can be very helpful to keep available for different users.
Removable or Reversible Arms: The arms can be removed entirely for side transfers, or the sides can be swapped around to reduce the width of the seat, therefore encouraging centreline seating with the elbows near the body. Finally, there is the option to swap out the standard solid arms for open arms if required.
In-Built Pressure Relief
It’s no secret that pressure care is one of the most important factors to consider within healthcare seating! That’s why we have built it into the HiBack Bedside Chair, to reduce deconditioning and prevent the development of pressure injuries on patients who are staying on a ward. Pressure care features include:
Visco foam as standard in the seat, back, and armrests, providing a generally accepted “medium” level of pressure care. Other foams and gel cushions are then also available for users at higher risk of developing pressure sores.
Dartex fabric on all of the cushions. Dartex is a polyurethane fabric that boasts four way stretch, is fully water resistant, eco-flame retardant, and can even be machine washed. Dartex was originally developed for the NHS during the 1900’s, and is our fabric of choice for specialist seating.
Durable Frame for Hospital Use:Made in Britain using cutting edge production, for ultimate strength and longevity over a long period of time within hospitals.
Designed for Easy Movement:Twin axle castors with an ergonomic handle make moving the chair very easy between beds, wards, or for cleaning.
Ergonomic Comfort: A seat rake and back angles minimise falls or sliding, provide excellent lumbar support, and promote maximum patient comfort.
Patient Safety:Rounded edges on all surfaces reduce the risk of users hurting themselves on sharp corners or edges. A large base plate also maintains good contact with floor in case of patients falling or stumbling against it.
Infection Control Friendly: The unique modularity of the chair allows the seat, cushions and arms to be easily removed, leaving the base of the chair exposed for cleaning. All materials can withstand rigorous and regular wiping with standard detergents, and the cushion covers can also be removed for machine washing. Finally, the frame is made from a hard-wearing and anti-microbial polymer.
Stand-Aid Compatible: This chair is compatible with stand-aids such as the Sara Stedy.
Our Development Process with The NHS
As we were working to solve a number of problems for hospitals across the UK, including high levels of deconditioning and pressure wounds, patient discomfort and dissatisfaction with their experiences on the wards, and large numbers of repetitive strain and back injuries amongst nurses due to inadequate bedside chairs, it was only right for us to work closely with a number of NHS Trusts throughout the development process.
Our experienced seating experts, specialist medical furniture designers, and R&D team collaborated with the teams at the hospitals to conduct in-depth product trials and feedback sessions over the course of two years, making sure that every little detail of our new innovative product was practical for staff, ergonomic and comfortable for patients, and durable.
